Deeper than blue is a book about a thirteen year old girl called Amy who is a champion swimmer. Amy lives and breathes swimming, until one day she is involved in a horrible traffic accident, which leaves her maimed and her best friend Sophie dead. This book is written from Amy’s perspective and tells the story about how she copes with the loss of her friend and her leg. It also deals with how her family come to terms with these events, and they way in which it changes their relationship and lives forever.
I really enjoyed this book because it deals with a very emotional subject in both a sensitive and humorous way. The characters are very realistic, and invite your sympathy and understanding. It is also interesting to see how one event can affect so many people in so many different ways. This book is not only a real page-turner, which draws you in to Amy’s plight but is also inspirational. I definitely recommend this book.
