The boy in striped pyjamas is a really unusual book, and is extremely difficult to describe without giving the whole plot away. (Which would ruin the book). It is set during the Second World War and follows the story of small nine-year-old boy called Bruno whose father is a high-ranking officer in the Third Reich. The family moves from Berlin to a ‘strange and ‘horrible place’ in the middle of nowhere. Bruno misses his friends, and cannot understand why he can’t go home. He also cannot understand who the strange people are he can see from his bedroom window, why they are dressed in striped pyjamas, and why he is not allowed to play with them!!

I really liked this book because it is both captivating and full of mystery. The story is described through Bruno’s eyes, which offers insight into a nine year olds view of the world, which is both interesting and amusing. The ending is quite shocking and really does make you stop and think. I would recommend this book to anyone, as it really is an excellent read which leaves a lasting impression on the reader.
