Have you ever wondered if there have been other worlds, universes, species and animals that are right under your nose… but you cant see them?Well for Lyra Belaqua – an ordinary girl in a parallel universe to us – life could not be more normal. She had fights in the clay beds with the Gyptians, studied at her home Jordan College and even climbed over the roofs with Rodger the Kitchen Slave.

But it all goes wrong when Roger is taken by “the gobblers” and Lyra sets out to fufill a prophecy that only the witches know about and few others.Lyra ends up in the north with her Alethiometer after running away from evil Miss Coulter, who turns out to be her mother! Lord Asriel, who she thought was her uncle turns out to be her father, and travels up north with his Daemon (animal-being who is part of their soul) and they are captured. Lyra is stuck and sets out to find out about dust.

She meets Ice Bears and gobblers who rip apart peoples souls and witches, but is it all for the best? read the book and see!The new film – the Golden Compass – tells you about half of the book, but surely you dont want to waste your time watching that when you could be engrossed in a book that tells you much more!

Please read the book, you will enjoy it – perhaps you will even read the next two, The Subtle Knife , and the Amber Spyglass. But whatever you do – ensure you read this book as if you don’t, you will be missing out on one of the best books… in history.
