Life Lost from Luck by Charlotte 7M

It was only as the Sun’s last rays hit my cheek that I awoke. My head was filled with pain, throbbing like a hand pounding like a drum. I opened my eyes a gap. I was aware of the heat and the coolness of the water lapping at my ankles. The sun made me squint as I looked around. The air was dropping in temperature for every second I wasted trying to look around. My head began to feel wet. I put my hand to my scalp and found blood dripping.I must have lost a lot of blood as the sand around me was covered. I sat up wearily, noticed the feeling of light headedness and almost fell back down again. Could this be what it felt like to die? Perhaps right now I was in a hospital bed, gasping for breath with my family close beside me. My family. Now there’s a thought. If this really was the end of my life then why, where and what am I doing here alone? But as every second ticked by it dawned on me that in fact I was alive and indeed I am going to die soon.I tried to stand up and fell miserably back to the ground again. After a few failed attempts I managed to crawl away from the sea and onto the beach. I ripped off my top, despite gradually decreasing temperature, and tried to bind it round my head. Within seconds it was soaking but it gave some support. I grabbed the matches alongside me and lit one. I grabbed some dry leaves and set them alight on the sand. I carried it with me as I treaded slowly forwards.
Where were Harriet and Ruth? Where were Lulu and Amy? My four best friends had abandoned me, bleeding to death on this island. I felt my eyes go misty. The lump tugged at my throat but I didn’t cry. Perhaps I couldn’t. Perhaps I was in the hospital bed right at the end. I was certainly breathing deeply. However I soon stumbled across a cave. It had been eaten away by the sea. I knew that if I wasn’t careful then the sea would creep in as I slept but I checked and it seemed as though the tide was going out so I laid down to sleep.I must have slept for about an hour. I could hear water, rough water. I ran out of the cave and the water was so far out that I couldn’t see the start of it. What was happening? Then I saw the water rushing back. “Oh my gosh!” I thought. “Tsunami!!” ….
